has caused the Debian Bug report #916720,
regarding upgrade-reports: stretch to buster upgrade graphics fail, ok with old kernel 4.9
to be marked as done.
This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with.
If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the
Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith.
(NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this
message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system
misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact owner@bugs.debian.org
immediately.)
This puts it well. I have no idea what bug this message is talking about, and I have nothing to do with this. Why am I in this chain? Apparently because of a "serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere"? I hope this note can help fix it!
Regards

Subject: upgrade-reports: stretch to buster upgrade graphics fail, ok with old kernel 4.9
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
upgraded to buster via apt-get upgrade, apt-get dist-upgrade, all worked well up to here.
Booting gave black screen.
Reboot with old kernel 4.9 --> all is well.
Set system to go into multi-user (without graphics): Same effect.
Thus it must be related to the framebuffer screen setting at boot, rather than xserver-xorg.
Will attach working and non-working X.org.log below
Max
