Bug#684545: upgrade-reports: HTPC spontaneously reboots

When it boots it, it's not clean

First is displays the BIOS POST.
Then GRUB
Then "Loading, please wait...".
Then it pauses about 30 seconds.
Finally it continuously outputs the following lines:

udevd[81]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe - b scsi:t-0x05' [237]
udevd[82]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe - b usb:V05e3p070Ed9602dc00dsc00dp00ic03isc00ip02' [239]
udevd[83]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe - b usb:V1tC2p0036d0001dc00dsc00dp00ic03isc00ip00'  [240]
udevd[84]: timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe - b scsi:t-0x00' [236]

To recover I reboot and select an earlier kernel at grub.
