I finally found the APT::Immediate-Configuration section. I seems I have
to turn off the option, and that I should be able to do that using -o on
the apt-get command line.
But I've tried half a dozen variations on that command line.
How *should* one write something like apt-get dist-upgrade -f -o
APT::Immediate-Configuration=off?
Or is it 1? or 0? or no" of false? Or are the options in the wrong
place? or should ther ne more equals signs? Or feser?
If nothing else, will use aptitude, even though it's not recommended,
hoping that after it deletes the hundred-odd packages it wants to I
willl still have a somewhat usable system.
