I'm trying to use xvnc4viewer -listen, but when attempting to connect,
I get "Connection refused".
My setup is a laptop (where I run vncviewer) and a tower (where I run
x11vnc):
Laptop:
- Running Debian Squeeze, updated today
- xvnc4viewer version 4.1.1+X4.3.0-34
- I run this command:
- Output: "main: Listening on port 7003"
Tower:
- Running Kubuntu 9.04
- x11vnc version 0.9.3.dfsg.1-1ubunt
- After starting xvnc4viewer on the laptop, I run this:
- x11vnc -connect 192.168.0.100 7003
- Output: Lots of initial setup messages, followed by:
- Making connection to client on host 192.168.0.100 port 7003
- connection failed: Connection refused
Here is all the trouble-shooting I've done--I'm not at a loss of how to
continue with diagnosis.
- It's not a firewall problem--even with it turned off (Guarddog),
connect still fails. Furthermore, with all firewall logging turned on,
I see no messages in /var/log/syslog.
- If I use xtightvncviewer instead, my tower can connect
successfully
- This has worked in the past when both machines were running
KUbuntu 9.04
- Kubuntu 9.04 and Debian Squeeze both have xvnc4viewer version
4.1.1, thus xvnc4viewer hasn't changed
- If I run "xvnc4viewer -log *:stdout:100 -listen 7003", the output
is:
- Config: set listen(Bool) to 1
- main: Listening on port 7003
- No more output, even after I run x11vnc on the tower
So it works in the same version of xvnc4viewer on Kubuntu 9.04, but not
Debian Squeeze.
I can always switch to xtightvncviewer, but I like the UI of
xvnc4viewer better.
Any thoughts on how I can further diagnose this would be greatly
appreciated!
