Thank you for pointing that out.  I apologize...I saw this:

And it didn't occur to me until now to look here:

http://packages.debian.org/stable/python/

Which shows that I can indeed install python 2.4 on stable.

I had seen distributions include version older than their default, but it did 
not occur to me that they would include a version newer than the default.

So...is there any move to make 2.4 the default for Etch?
