gnome-volume-manager + Volume names

I am using gnome-volume-manager with nautilus on the Gnome Desktop.

GVM is working fine, It auto-mounts any usb devices I plug in and places a
referring icon on the desktop that accesses the device.

My only complaint is the name of the volume that is used with each device.
They are all named after the mount directory name. Since there is no fstab
entries & I am not invoking pmount directly, I don't have control over the
mount directory which seems to be deciding factor in regards to the volume
name that shows up on the desktop.

What I end up with when I plug in my Maxtor USB drive with (3 partitions) &
my Olympus digital camera is a desktop with 4 icons labeled: usbdisk,
usbdisk-1, usbdisk-2, usbdisk-3, & usbdisk-4. What I would like is for GVM
to use the device NAME or SYMLINK from my custom udev rules.

Does anyone know how to do this or if it is even possible?

Thanks
