  Actually, that's not quite true: searching for '~ahold' will show you a
list of packages that are either "held" in a sticky way or are not going
to be upgraded because they haven't been selected for upgrade; if you
manipulate things a little you might be able to get a list of all held
packages out of that.

  A simpler way might be this:

LC_ALL=C egrep '^(Package|State|$)' /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates | grep -B 1 -A 1 '^State: 2' | grep '^Package' | sed 's/^Package: //'

  That'll spit out a list of held packages, although for some odd reason
it takes ages to run if your locale is UTF8.  The LC_ALL=C is there
because of bug #181378 and friends.
