No sound with alsa...

Running the 2.4.22 kernel compiled from kernel-source deb with lowlatency, win4lin, and supermount-ng patches applied. Compiled with devfs support turned on and set to automount at boot, used make-kpkg for the compile. Compiled alsa-source ver 2.8 deb with make-kpkg, dpkg -i both resulting packages.

esound and esound-clients both installed (no esound-alsa in testing at the moment), devfsd installed (and appears to be working) and my name added to group audio. Mixer settings are unmuted and raised.

copied 0.9 into base-config and used ###DEBCONF MAGIC to rewrite file.

The card is a SoundBlaster Audigy, reconfigured alsa-base to use dummy and emu10k1.

boot has the card starting up with a good bass thump, and then... nothing. No Sound in Gnome. The boot messages return that alsa appears to be compiled statically (?).

When Gnome starts, there are no error messages about the sound server or any devices..

I'm stumped.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
