Comments/Problems:

I've fetched
http://people.debian.org/~tfheen/d-i/images/2003-01-31/archive/net-1440.img,
which seems to be the same as
http://people.debian.org/~tfheen/d-i/images/2003-01-17/archive/net-1440.img
: it has got the same timestamp. Apparently, the daily build is failing
since jan 17.

I did

 # dd if=3Dnet-1440.img of=3D/dev/fd0 bs=3D1024 conv=3Dsync; sync

and booted from the just created floppy.

System booted fine (apart from these error messages:

Setting up filesystem, please wait ...
 kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k net-pf-1, errno=3D2
 kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k net-pf-1, errno=3D2

)

My nic triggered the tulip module to get loaded, which went fine. It went
up after running pump.

The menu now read:

 1. Configure network hardware
 2. Configure the network via DHCP
 3. Configure a static network
 4. Load installer modules (default)
 5. Execute a shell

In the menu, I choose the default: Load installer modules. In the
presented submenu, I choose ``net-retriever'' (the only choice offered).

What I got was:

 wget: wget -c -q http:///debian/dists/sarge/main/debian-installer/binary-i=
386/Packages.gz -O /var/cache/anna/Packages.gz
wget: : No address associated with name

 postinst exited with status 35584
 Debian Installer Main Menu

It did _not_ ask me to select a mirror; apparently,
choose-mirror.postinst was not run.

Other remarks: no nano was available from the shell (although support
for this was announced). When starting a shell, it complained:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

and indeed, doing a

 ping some.host.name

was a bad idea: it didn't respond to ^C , I had to force my system to
reboot... ;-P .

Bye,

Joost

(Resending this with randomized addresses in the To: field; it might have
been eaten by SpamAssassin. Apologies if it reaches BTW twice :-) )

I'm closing a bunch of old installation reports that do not appear to be
related to the current state of the installer (ie. report problems that has
been fixed now; some of these should have been closed ages ago, but never
was). Feel free to test the d-i beta and submit new installation reports :-)
