INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version:
http://people.debian.org/~tfheen/d-i/images/2003-01-03/cvs/net-1440.img
uname -a: Linux (none) 2.4.19-386 #1 Mon Nov 18 21:50:03 EST i586
unknown
Date:
Method: dd the net-1440.img to floppy and boot off it. Network
      install from ftp.us.debian.org, non proxied.

Machine: An old ACER 486 based board with only ISA slots.
Processor: i586 (upgraded from the original i486).
Memory: 36M
Root Device: WDE 420M ide.
Root Size/partition table: Everything was intended to be installed
into the 420M ide disk. The disk was partitioned and had a fs from
before the installation. It had a single partition that occupy the
	  entire disk.
Output of lspci: no pci in this machine.

Base System Installation Checklist:

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [ ] None on this machine.
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [E] SCSI disk was not detected.
Partition hard drives: [ ]
Create file systems: [ ]
Mount partitions: [O]
Install base system: [ ]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [ ]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:

1. The machine also has a st19171n SCSI disk with an aha1542 host
adapter. They didn't got detected although I downloaded the SCSI udeb.
Going to the 2nd vt, lsmod showed the the module for the host adapter
was not loaded. Attempting to insmod the aha1542 module on the prompt
shell failed due to unresolved symbols. However maybe the command I
used, insmod aha1542 io=0x134, has bad syntax?
There was no problem with the ide disk.

2. The purpose of the installation was to get a minimal system into
which I can ssh and restore a backup through the network. The partition
that I was installing into was supposed to become the tmp partition of
the restored system.

(This is my third attempt at sending this mail, and they keep getting eaten.
I'll split now and hope it gets through. :-) )

I'm closing a bunch of old installation reports that do not appear to be
related to the current state of the installer (ie. report problems that has
been fixed now; some of these should have been closed ages ago, but never
was). Feel free to test the d-i beta and submit new installation reports :-)
