INSTALL REPORT

Debian-installer-version:
Dec 8 17:46
http://people.debian.org/~tfheen/d-i/images/2002-12-07/cvs/?M=A
(excluded broken ones)

uname -a:

Date:
Sun Dec 8 18:31:30 CET 2002

Method:
I boot over network / pxe: dhcpd, tftpd-hpa and the pxelinux.0
bootloader from the syslinux package.
on the pxelinux commandline I enter:

net-1440.img initrd=net-initrd.gz
-> "Cannot load a ramdisk with an old kernel image."

vmlinuz initrd=net-initrd.gz
-> the following bug report is about this.

did I enter the boot line correctly? somehow I feel that I missed the
net-1440.img file?

Machine:
sony vaio pcg c1mzx (has some bugs with the ali ide controller, but it
doesnt seem so in this kernel version)

Processor:

Memory:
360 MB

Root Device:
ide

Root Size/partition table:
n/a

Output of lspci:
/bin/sh: lspci: not found

[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:
rtl8139 could not be found, so I modprobe'd -v 8139too and there my
NIC popped up.

in the main menu of the Debian installer, I entered step 4, chose http,
18 for Germany, 4 for ftp.de.debian.org, blank for no proxy information
and 1 for sarge. now I choose the net-retriever and it gives me the
following error message about 10 times:

"/usr/bin/debian-installer/retriever/net-retriever: error while loading
shared libraries: libdebconf.so.0.3 cannot open shared object: No such
file or directory"

and then
"Segmentation fault
postinst exited with status 35584"

and then I am back in the main menu.

I would be glad if you could reply on what -I guess- _I_ did wrong.

greets, Felix

(This is my third attempt at sending this mail, and they keep getting eaten.
I'll split now and hope it gets through. :-) )

I'm closing a bunch of old installation reports that do not appear to be
related to the current state of the installer (ie. report problems that has
been fixed now; some of these should have been closed ages ago, but never
was). Feel free to test the d-i beta and submit new installation reports :-)
