Dectection and loading off modules
I am using debian sarge on i386 2.4.22 kernel ( compilled with the
"Debian way")
The bttv.o module was not beeing loaded by Modutils although it was
specified in /etc/modutils/aliases ( alias char-major-81 bttv ).
It would load and work well with insmod.
I had the stupid idea of installing module-init-tools without reading
that it was made to work with the 2.5 an up kernels and I have a 2.4.22
- the result was that I lost the emu10k1 mixer and I have been trying to
get it back with no resultes ( uninstalled -purged-module-init-tools,
uninstalled -purged- kmixer (the only mixer I use), and reinstalled
again, tryed dpkg-reconfigure kmix and dpkg-reconfigure modutils but
nothing works - cant get my Creative SBLive-Emu10k1 mixer tab back!
After long searching on the init scripts I got the impression that I
have two apps doing the same job - discover and modutils.
In /etc/rcS.d there are S20modutils wich points to /etc/init.d/modutils
and S36discover wich points to /etc/init.d/discover.Should I have both
of them?Wich is preferred ? I think modutils is more configurable right?
Could someone please give a few hints on how to untangle all this ?
Thank you
John
