Comments/Problems:

I've done

 % cd cvs/cvs.debian.org/debian-boot
 % CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.debian.org:/cvs/debian-boot cvs co debian-installer
 % cd build

Now, building a floppy disk image from today's CVS results in free space
-188 K. I've tried to tune it by removing netcfg-static and
isa-pnp-modules from debian-installer/build/ pkg-lists/net/common and
debian-installer/build/pkg-lists/net/i386; but this failed too: free
space -158 k:

 % fakeroot make build
 ....

 System stats

Total system size: 2.3M (1.4M libs, 304K kernel modules)
 Initrd size: 940k
 Kernel size: 658k
 Free space: -158k

 # vi /etc/fstab ( as noted in build/Makefile )
 % vi Makefile ( uncomment USER_MOUNT_HACK )
 % fakeroot make floppy_image

 ...
 cp dest/net-initrd.gz `pwd`/mnt//initrd.gz
cp: writing `/home/joostvb/cvs/cvs.debian.org/debian-boot/debian-installer/build/mnt//initrd.gz': No space left on device
 make: *** [dest/net-1440.img] Error 1

BTW, just dd-ing the borken .img to fd0 does give a bootable floppy.
It's not of much use, though.

Hope this is of any use to you, and thanks for working on
debian-installer: it looks quite promissing!

Bye

Joost
