This was announced as fixed in base config 1.33.18 which is incoming
into woody.

I can't find the reference to the message, but one work around was to
go to a different virtual terminal when you hit the loop, kill the
process, and upgrade base-config to 1.33.18 which is in sid. Or just
wait until it makes it into woody....
