Comments/Problems:
* Things that have failed seriously
- partitioner : i have launched the partitioning menu item two
times. The first time it worked (althrough the default menu item
stuck at this step), the second time it hangs, after giving dozens
of error message about "Unknown localized fields", regarding
Description-xx and Extended_description-xx (with xx being country
codes). I killed dpkg-reconfigure : it gets re-launched. So i had
to kill main-menu...
- ... But it refuses to start again. /sbin/debian-installer (i
think) is looping trying to start it, but it complains about
debian-installer.so.3 missing. Maybe new installer modules have
been installed at this point, and this library is no longer
available ? (i restarted install and launched fdisk only once...)
- making filesystem : I select the menu item. It does just nothing,
and the main menu is immediately re-displayed. Trying
dpkg-reconfigure by hand displays the same errors as for the
partitioner. (i made filesystems by hand).
- mounting : same symptoms as for the previous step. But trying
dpkg-reconfigure, it seems that the packages has't been configure
yet ("not fully installed"). Trying udpkg --configure outputs raw
debconf protocol. "debconf di-utils-blahblah.postinst" in
/var/lib/dpkg/info terminates immediately and silently. (i mounted
filesystems by hand).
- base system install : idem. (i debootstrapped by hand, chrooted
into my new shiny system and configured it.)
* Things that work, but seem to have some problems
- during network configuration : hardware configuration is fine (i
did it the manual way, i use an isa nic in this computer). I
dont't remember exactly, but i think one week ago there was a
default value that was displayed for the gateway parameter (i can
be wrong...), whereas there weren't any this time.
What have retained my attention is that the summary contained only
"interface=eth0", whereas last week it contained all the
parameters. The network setup if fine, however.
Also note that when you run the network setup a second time, it
fails while trying to add the route (which already exists). Simply
putting the interface down before (re-)configuring it should solve
this.
- every syslog()ed message make kmod output a message about a failed
modprobe of net-pf-1... No harm, but makes reading messages a bit
harder ;)
- For question "Select hard drive", since there is only one in my
computer, cdebconf doesn't present me with choices, and answers
itself (good), but the question text is still printed...
Thanks for having read so far ;)
