As was mentioned in a previous reply, build it from source. Make sure
there's a deb-src line in /etc/apt/sources.list pointing to sid or
unstable, and then:

apt-get update
apt-get build-dep gaim
apt-get -b source gaim

It took 15 minutes or less for me to build gaim 0.59 on Woody (P3-800,
512MB).
