Accent in Gnome

Hello All,

(This mail will maybe be send in double, sorry for the trouble)

Sorry if my question is Lame, but I did not found informations in the
various docs I read.

The accentuated characters (e grave, e acute, e circ, etc.) does not
appear in gnome on my woody box. Even worse, the end of a string
containing such characters is not show !

Do you have any ideas ? As I am a frensh speaker, this is quite annoying
