xmms sub-windows don't work

I'm not able to click on the buttons on the preferences and the "add 
dir" window (possibly also other windows, but these found my attention), 
except the close window button on the upper right. the "add file" window 
works, for example, but i can't play files because the output plugin is 
irreversibly set to disk writer.
please help, isi
