X freeze up in woody
Hi all,
This problem has been ongoing for me for a long time now, i just haven't
gotten around to reporting it / asking for help. Sometimes when i reboot
(not all the time) when X loads up, it freezes on me, and I have to reboot
again. This has happened both when i boot into console, or boot into a
graphical login (i'm using KDM now). I can't quite figure out what causes
it, and I can't quite figure out any sort of trend to the lock ups. I wonder
if anyone else has experienced this with a similer setup as me. my
definition of a lockup is that it loads into X, everything seems to work fine
(flashing text-input indicator, dock apps still running, but does not accept
any input from keyboard/mouse) . This has only happened in Woody. here is
some information on the system
Debian testing/woody
Video Card: Creative Voodoo Banshee (16MB, agp, tdfx module)
XFree86: 4.1.0-9 ( has happened on previous versions in the 4.x tree, but
not in 3.x)
XDisplay: 1024x768, 16-bit color (banshee needs this for DRI)
Kernel: 2.4.16-pre1 ( has happened with any kernel from 2.2.18 onward)
Standard PS/2 3-button mouse with H and V scrollwheels (imwheel)
Standard 104 keyboard
Window Manager: Windowmaker, KDE, Blackbox, anything
Any other information needed?
thanks in advance
