Esound permissions issue

Since the latest upgrade of esound, esound-clients and esound-common (0.2.22-5) I
persistently get the following error when attempting to play sound from a user
account (i.e. using XMMS):

Unable to connect to UNIX socket /var/run/esound/socket

However, I can play sound if I am su as root. This problem is only since the
latest package upgrade (0.2.22-4 was fine).

I am running Debian testing, with sawfish and a couple of associated libraries
installed from unstable.
