Use it. "update-alternatives --config x-window-manager" ought to do it.
If any of these guys haven't been upgraded and aren't registered, then
you can do something like:
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/x-window-manager \
x-window-manager /usr/bin/gnome-session 50 \
--slave /usr/share/man/man1/x-window-manager.1.gz \
x-window-manager.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/gnome-session.1.gz
to register it or see update-alternatives(8) and season to taste.
Then do the --config.
