This is a bit off topic, but maybe it's best to just answer it rather than
try to refer you to another list. You can reply directly to me if you
have more questions and don't want to mail the list.

Why do you do this? If the system is set up and installed, and you know
xdm is working and you usually want to use it, I'd think you'd want to start
it automatically via /etc/init.d/xdm.

What menu?

In general, if xdm is behaving properly, it's easy to stop.
