slink + dhcpc + linux 2.2.x

It seems as though the 'stable' dhcp client that is part of the slink
package fails with the 2.2.x series of kernels.. (errors are generated in
the syslog saying ...(ifconfig): function not supported)...

I also noticed there is another dhcp client in the slink dist, thats
description says not to use it because the scripts aren't completed yet ..
I installed it and read the docs .. I assume that it is the one which will
work, but it does not run (I'm guessing because 'the scripts arent
completed yet'..)

So .. my question is .. Is the beta dhcp client going to be finished in
slink?
