In Switzerland it dosen't really matter. For artificial economic reasons
almost all the providers have to use the BBCS (Backbone Connectivity
Services) from Swisscom. So even if the upstream comes from a different
provider, the last mile is usually Swisscom.
I'm hoping this will now change with the installation of fiber by the
city utility companies. Init7 (not affiliated) is currently one of the
most innovative providers. They offer FTTH and full IPv6 connectivity.
