Bug#734386: /usr/bin/scp: Hosts from .ssh/config recognized on source or target but not both
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:6.4p1-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/scp
Dear Maintainer,
In ~/.ssh/config you can define a list of host names, each mapped
to a real host and including options (such as user name, key file,
etc.). Such hosts can be used by scp as source or target hosts, but
trying to use them at both ends is likely to lead to "host not found"
errors, because scp essentially tries to resolve the second host
from the first host rather than the user's machine.
This is inconsistent and surprising.
#222992 (closed wontfix upstream) is probably related, but the
reasons for the closing do not apply here AFAICT.
Thanks,
Shai.
