Bug#505995: openssh-server: openssh server fails on reboot

Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:5.1p1-3
Severity: important

Hi,

Since the upgrade of this machine from etch to lenny, the ssh server
consistently fails on reboot. The only thing I see in auth.log is the
following

Nov 15 16:52:55 orwell sshd[2732]: error: Bind to port 22 on
192.168.1.200 failed: Cannot assign requested address.
Nov 15 16:52:56 orwell sshd[2732]: fatal: Cannot bind any address.

On restarting/starting the ssh server

/etc/init.d/ssh restart

or

/etc/init.d/ssh start

the server comes up without fuss, and the following shows in auth.log:

Nov 17 10:31:21 orwell sshd[3087]: Server listening on 192.168.1.200 port 22.

I'm speculating that the network connection is not up when the server
tries to start. Suggestions for debugging/workarounds appreciated.

I'm setting this (unusually) to important, since this is a major
nuisance if one reboots remotely. Feel free to downgrade if you
disagree.

BTW, surprised that this report does not automatically contain config
info about the sshd server, though I doubt it is relevant in this
case. Feel free to ask if you want it.

                                                  Thanks, Faheem.
