Bug#417136: openssh-server: Login failure not logged by SyslogFacility
Package: openssh-server
Version: 1:4.3p2-9
Severity: normal
I use PubkeyAuthentication only.
When I try to login without the right key, /var/log/auth.log only shows one line:
Apr 1 18:54:14 fw sshd[20196]: Connection from 10.2.2.210 port 44486
The client side shows up a 'Permission denied (publickey).'
When I run the sshd with option -d the output shows the login failure:
---8<---
debug1: userauth-request for user root service ssh-connection method none
debug1: attempt 0 failures 0
debug1: PAM: initializing for "root"
Failed none for root from 10.2.2.210 port 35985 ssh2
Connection closed by 10.2.2.210
debug1: do_cleanup
---8<---
I wondered about that this 'Failed'-messages won't show up in the auth.log
