Bug#115767: I see this too on x86-xen running etch

Um, yea, that would break .. its mentioned in the strace manpage BUGS section.

What about strace without -f?  I just tested with strace -o /dev/null sh, and I
am still able to run sudo.  It isn't clear to me whether this will catch the
problem; it depends on the server crashing (you said it did, no?) and sshd not
forking before it tries to read urandom.
