I can definitely do the .desktop entry (well, only in one language). 
There is the matter of an icon, but that can be gimped from ssh.gif on
openssh.com.  Will do soon.

The automatically on login part is a bit more tricky, but I'll ask
around.

Both of these can/should probably go upstream too.
