ssh-askpass-gnome basically hasn't changed at all since 3.6p1-1, and
it's still working fine for me. This looks more like a gdm problem:

gdm (2.4.1.6-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [...]
  * Support use-ssh-agent in the Gnome session (closes: #196659)
