Hi Jonathan,

apologies for not getting back earlier in chat!

The initrd has grown due to growing size of the kernel module directory and
debian-installer itself which is also part of the initrd image. In the past,
the installer had support for low-memory configurations but I think that is
no longer the case.

I can definitely look into options to create a low-memory installation image
like we had in the past, however that will take some time due to the many
other things on my TODO list.

As a workaround, you can install a minimal Debian system using qemu-system
and later just copy the installed system onto the disk of your target system.
