Re: new SMP kernel on the old Netra X1

For the background: A bootloader using blocklists does not use a filesystem driver to
access the stage2 bootloader. Instead, it remembers the position of the raw blocks of
the stage2 bootloader on disk. This is why it's necessary not to use a fancy filesystem
for /boot but something as simple as ext2 or ext3 and this is why the filesystem must
not be too large, otherwise the blocks of the stage2 bootloader might beyond what the
stage1 bootloader can access through the firmware.
Well this is the magic knowledge that was missing. So here is some
progress right up until the root filesystem can not be located due
to some module missing somewhere :

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/sda4 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)
Perhaps I need to recreate the initrd again with a LOT more modules.
I tried to pare it down to just the modules needed but perhaps this
is wrong.
