Re: Updated Debian Ports installation images 2021-09-21

Hi Adrian,

so I gave it directly a try on my Ultra 10 (512MB RAM, 440 MHz, stock PGX24 onboard) and a 20 GB IDE.

CD boots fine (less errors than the 10.0 netinst with regards to RTC etc).

Installation works till the point where the configuration of the package manager takes place which leads to an "unfinished" installation (did the grub installation afterwards from the menu).

Having a look into /var/log/installer I can see.

"Configuring ' apt-setup-udeb' failed with error code 127"

Best

Iggi

Ps: Can I run the "debian-installer" from CD again (without booting)

    Hello!

I just built a fresh set of Debian Ports installation images which are
using the latest Debian unstable kernel 5.14.6.

The images have not been tested as I currently cannot start my testvm
on the SPARC server I usually use for testing, so testing is currently
    up to the users.

Since kernel version 5.12, Linux is finally working on larger ia64 systems
such as the RX2800 again where the kernel previously failed to boot. So,
if anyone has such a machine and wants to install it, it should now work.

On some ia64 machines, it may be necessary to pass the option

    	"hardened_usercopy=off"

on the kernel command line. For that, press "e" on the GRUB menu and
append the line above without quotes to the boot command.

PowerMac installation should also work with these images again, although
    I haven't tested that yet.

    Adrian
