What version of QEMU are you using? The default network card for sun4u has been
sunhme (Happy Meal Ethernet) for quite some time, so my guess is that you're ending
up with 2 NICs plugged into your virtual machine which is causing the confusion.
Take a look at the wiki documentation at
https://wiki.qemu.org/Documentation/Platforms/SPARC for more information and check
your command line to make sure you're not trying to override the default NIC with
ne2k_pci.
