Re: SPARC regressions in 4.14.7

Hi,

On 12/29/2017 12:55 PM, John Paul Adrian Glaubitz wrote:
Hi!

I just updated of the Sun Fire T2000 we have in Debian from 4.14.2 to 4.14.7 which
apparently introduced a regression:

Segmentation fault

Same here for a T1000 (of course, but already with v4.14.2 as I just found out, output below) and for a V445 w/UltraSPARC IIIi (output further below). Interestingly, no issues on an Enterprise 250 with UltraSPARC II. I get an Oops (output even further below) on my Ultra 80 (also w/UltraSPARC II), but it looks unrelated to the issues on US IIIi and T1 and it's also not fatal.

UPDATE: Before moving the SAS disk from the V445 to the T1000 for testing I upgraded a few packages, which triggered initramfs updates for both Linux kernels v4.14.2 and v4.14.7. After reusing that disk in the V445, segfaults now also happen with v4.14.2. So maybe some recently upgraded package is responsible and not the (newer) kernel.

This is the list of packages that were upgraded on the V445:
```
root@v445:/etc/network# apt upgrade
[...]
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  apparmor firmware-linux-free irqbalance libdns-export169 libglib2.0-0
libglib2.0-data libisc-export166 libnuma1 linux-image-4.14.0-2-sparc64-smp
  shared-mime-info xdg-user-dirs
The following packages will be upgraded:
  bsdmainutils debian-ports-archive-keyring debianutils isc-dhcp-client
  klibc-utils libklibc libpython3-stdlib linux-image-sparc64-smp python3
  python3-minimal python3-reportbug reportbug
12 upgraded, 11 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 38.3 MB of archives.
After this operation, 173 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
```

I assume it's "klibc" then (Anatoly Pugachev mentioned issues with it and James Clarke provided patches to fix them in other emails).

UPDATE2: Retested the Ultra 80 with upgraded packages and indeed it now also segfaults just like the other machines.

Cheers,
Frank
