Re: Problem implementing USB on Ultra 5/10

Hello,

A recent post mentioned having USB on a U10. I bought a StarTech PCIUSB7 card because it is said to be Linux compatible. With the PCI USB card installed the U5 flashes the keyboard leds twice and does nothing else. Stop-a doesn't do anything. It has debian 7.5.0 installed from the netinstall.iso. Do USB drivers have to be manually installed?

I don't think this is a Linux issue, I think it's an issue of whether the underlying SPARC-based hardware and firmware (OBP etc.) are prepared to run with a particular card installed. In fairness, I've seen similar compatibility issues on e.g. older Compaq servers, which I put down in part to poor physical tolerance on the PCI layout (reseating sometimes fixed it). Success might also depend on which slot is used, and on the peculiarities of 5 vs 3.3V cards and slots.

Looking around, I can see an Adaptec AUI-3121 in a U80. I can't easily tell you what I've got in other systems (including Linux U10) since they're either in use or inaccessible.
