fresh install of Debian 7.3.0 onto Sparc Netra panics on first boot



I did a netboot and then install of most recent Debian stable and
used the boot image at :

http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-sparc/current/images/netboot/

This worked well and installation was smooth.

At the end of the install there was a warning that it was time to
perform the first boot and this resulted in what seems to be a well
known silo bug :

The required magic to perform is to power off the machine and then try a
cold boot.

Once the system was powered back on and sitting at the OpenBoot ok
prompt
I then tried a normal first boot.  That results in a perfectly
repeatable
panic or crash.

So is this a case of "that won't work" or some sort of magic incantation
required or any suggestions ?

I will say that the server ran Solaris 10 for the last five years with
no
problems at all.
