Hi Ayo,
just guessin', did you try to boot with ide=nodma just for testing? In case 
this would help you could try to find out "how much" dma is acceptable for 
your drive.

This would be done by doing:
/sbin/hdparm -d1 -X<dma-mode> /dev/hda

I've seen such issues on U60@kernel 2.4, maybe this is not appropriate for 
your problem, but something to check.

if you really want to see the pictures above - use some font
with constant spacing like courier! :-)
