Re: How to use 200 GB Disk on Ultra10?



fdisk never works right when I try to use it on large disks. I suggest
the following:

1) Unless you need to boot with this disk, use PC partition labeling
instead of Sun labeling. Make sure your kernel has PC partition table
support enabled.

2) Use parted to partition the disk instead of fdisk.

Using these suggestions, I have been able to get other large hard
drives up and running in my Ultra 10 in 10 minutes.

Keep in mind, without a more up-to-date IDE controller like a Promise
PCI card, you will have to use the jumpers on the drive to limit
yourself to 137GB of capacity or you might get data corruption due to a
lack of support for what's called LBA48.
