uses only 10 out of 12 cpus on a E4500, 2.6.9

i have an E4500 with 12 cpus.
when i installed Sarge i had 10 cpus. i upgraded to 12.
but it only probes and uses 10.

when it boots, POST shows 12 ok cpus.

any ideas?
