Sun GDM-5510 1504x1128 modeline (FYI)
Hello,
I could not find this information on the net, so I am mailing it here
just in case it was useful to someone.
I've spent some (longer) time playing with modeline settings to get a
reasonable resolution from Sun's GDM-5510 monitor (21"). From default
modelines XFree offered I was only able to get 1024x768 or after some
more effort 1280x960 (but upper 3 lines were not displayed and it was
not because of monitor settings). The monitor didn't accept any other
resolutions showing that the "out of range" message.
The Blade 150 I was playing with had an on-board Ati Rage XL which
basically works well with ATI driver included in XFree86 from Sarge.
I managed to get max. resolution 1504x1128 with this modeline:
Modeline "1504x1128" 112.00 1504 1581 1692 1987 1128 1129 1131 1174
+hsync +vsync
GNOME in this mode looks reasonably well (definitely doesn't look like
60Hz which I think it actually is?!). I tried to simply copy the config
to another machines with the same hardware and it "just worked" w/o any
further tweaks. I imagine anyone would be able to use this modeline for
such hardware, though some fine-tuning with xvidtune might be needed.
By accident I also just found http://bugs.debian.org/228494
which mentions this modeline:
This is the timing for 1400x1050 @ 60Hz for an
ATI Rage 128 Mobility 3 (e.g. Dell Latitude C600):
Modeline "1400x1050" 108.0 1400 1448 1462 1688 1050 1050 1053 1066
I dont have access to this b150 ATM, but I believe this modeline also
might work (and this one is also much more standard, while mine is
hand-tuned and really pushes monitor to its maximum capabilities).
Hope this will ever be useful to somebody,
