NFS server (user) lockup...

I'm a SS5 with debian woody that acts as a mail server for the
intranet (kernel 2.2.21).

I've many other GNU/Linux box, database server, print server, ... and
so i've setup autofs so that this box mount the /home of the user via
nfs from the ss5.

But sometimes the nfs server stop responding... i have to kill (-9) and
restart it.

Last lockup happened friday, at 18.00 loca time, so i've simple ignored
it and gone home... ;)))
This morning the nfs server works perfectly, and machine have 30 days
of uptime (so, a reboot have no fixed the problem).

Seems that if too many users mount from the SS5, they stop working till
some mount expires.

Could be?! How can i increase this limit?! Thanks.
