I thought that it might be time that I gave Debian Sparc a try.
I downloaded the 64 bit tftpboot.img from the address below and tried it out
on a Netra X1. The installer complained that it couldn't find a harddisk. it says...

         No hard disk drives were detected.  Since you must be 
         installing a diskless workstation, you must configure the
         network before mounting your Linux root filesystem from a
         NFS server.  Select "Next" to configure the network.

If I escape to the shell I can see that a disk was found (output below)

P.S. Apologies if this is a RTFM but I couldn't see anything in the
manuals that I found.
