mount / hangs on install of potato

i have an ibm dnes-309170 that i am trying to install on.

i formatted it w/fdisk and did a custom layout....did not work.

i then used sol8 to format and used fdisk to chany types to linux native/swap....did not work.

fdisk show largest sun disk-label to be 2.1Gbytes

is there some way to get a label to work for larger disks?
