Sure to appeal lovers of Shakespeare's work, playwright Ann-Marie
MacDonald's dramatic comedy offers a hilarious look at what could happen
if Shakespeare's "Othello" and "Romeo and Juliet" were actually conceived
of as Comedies instead of Tragedies.

The play begins in the present day at the office of a Queen's University
Ph. D. candidate when Constance Ledbelly makes a discovery regarding a
hidden meaning in Shakespeare's classic plays. Through a magical twist she
soon finds herself transported into the world of Othello and Romeo and
Juliet, and finds herself helplessly (and hilariously) affecting the
outcomes of both plays. As the events unfold, Constance undertakes a
journey of self discovery where, with the help of Desdemona and Juliet,
she is transformed from a helpless victim to a dauntless heroine.

Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) is a wild and fantastical farce
that includes cross-dressing (by both genders), swordplay, mistaken
identities, and playful tomfoolery. This play has been produced all over
the world from Europe to the States, even Japan, and, of course, all over
here in Canada. The play has won numerous awards including the Governor
General's Award for Drama. It was first produced at the Nightwood Theatre
in Toronto. It's been many years since Kingston has had a production, and
it will be one you should be sure not to miss!!!

"Delightful, often hilarious . . . MacDonald doesn't miss a trick,
scattering satirical observations on love and sex, scholarship and the
Bard like birdseed, while taking full advantage of the slapstick
possibilities in Skakespearean cross-dressing."
  - The Washington Post

"MacDonald's influences may be apparent, but the charm is her own."
  - Variety

"Stratford-upon-Acid: that's where MacDonald's dizzying Goodnight
Desdemona lives . . . MacDonald traipses through the canon with glee . . .
Lots of clever fun. "
  - The Village Voice

"Goodnight Desdemona brims with exuberance and penetrating wit."
   - Maclean's

"Clever, pointed and entertaining . . . This play is one of the wildest
and wooliest feminist reappraisals that the theatre has seen, and one of
the most intellectually ambitious."
    - The Globe And Mail
