Do you load the dri module in the modules list?
With XFree86 4.1.0 you cannot load the dri module twice. It will
be loaded by the ffb module for the Creator3D, if you have already
loaded it beofore the second load fails and XFree86 aborts.
But you will see this if you read the error messages from X11.
