Well, that didn't quite do it, but it probably pushed me in the right direction. Here's what I did. Probably not entirely kosher, but it appears to have gotten the job done: dpkg -P --force-all gcc-3.0-sparc64 dpkg -r libc6-sparc64-dev apt-get upgrade apt-get install libc6-sparc64-dev libc6-sparc64-dev requires gcc-3.0-sparc64, which is why I had to remove it.
