Yeah, and the main problem with those drivers is that they are closed
source and known to contain bugs that corrupt kernel memory (see a
linux-kernel archive for more information). Unfortunately Nvidia
doesn't want to release the source, so the bugs won't get fixed.

Better bug Nvidia to release their drivers as open source. If they
don't want to, just tell them that you are disappointed and will buy a
product from a competitor.
