it's possibly reverse dns lookups timing out.  unless you're running a
nameserver (bind et al) somewhere on your local network, try putting the
two machines in /etc/hosts.

ie:
acs-pc-jp[5]~> cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1       localhost
192.168.42.20  beowuld.tld	beowulf
192.168.42.21	bilbo.tld	bilbo



/Jp... of the three letter domain
