2.4.x compile on SPARC?

Perhaps I'm missing something. Before I go digging seriously, is anyone else having problems compiling a 2.4.x kernel on SPARC32? Platform: SS20 w/ 3 x ROSS Hypersparc, 384MB RAM, 4GB Wide Diff SCSI disk, Debian 2.2rev2. Got basicly the same errors with 2.4.4 & 2.4.5. I don't think I did anything odd in the config. FWIW...the 2.2.19 kernel compiles fine.
